What's the Difference Between "Giving Value" vs. "Pitching"? What Do YOU Think?
Thursday, February 12, 2009 at 02:10AM I'd like to pose this question to you so I can share your answers with the community.
The Million Dollar Question:
What's the difference between providing value to attract business, vs. pitching your affiliate program, opportunity, or products?
Post your answer below, but ALSO, if you'd like your answer viewed by our entire community, post your answer on Twitter. Write @mikeklingler at the beginning of your answer at Twitter (be sure to include the @ sign and don't put any space between my fist and last name). This way, everyone can review the answers by going to http://search.twitter.com and searching for @mikeklingler
We'll be using Twitter a lot like this to help us all connect as a community... and I'll be teaching you a number of strategies to grow your Twitter friends list (as well as how to turn this into significant business growth).
Twitter is the single most powerful relationship building and networking tool on the net today (not to mention the easiest to use). If you don't have a Twitter account yet it's very simple to set one up.
Go to http://www.Twitter.com and click on the button near bottom of page that says:
Get Started Now (of course there is no cost and is quick). You can watch the video in the upper right corner (red button) to better understand Twitter. It's a GREAT video that is easy to watch and understand.
Follow me at Twitter for more tips and training and to study how I use Twitter to grow my business by going to http://www.Twitter.com/MikeKlingler (click the follow button).
You need to have a Twitter account first and be logged in, to follow me. Don't forget to answer the question I posed. Then compare your answer to others in the community. The answer to THAT question is the answer to your business and financial success. Period.
Partners in success,

By providing value and building a relationship first you're effectively breaking the ice so to say.I've heard this term a thousand times and I'll say it again here because it holds so much relevance as it pertains to direct sells and the network marketing industry."Nobody likes to be sold, but everybody likes to buy"
This is the only way to attract prospects to your business and affiliate opportunities. If you try to hard sell before providing value first your doing nothing but spinning your wheels. So why not do it correctly, why not do it the right way first. If you learn the art of providing value first and giving before receiving prospects will automatically be attracted to you by the trust that you've built though a valuable relationship.
Giving value means providing a valuable piece of information that people can use. In many internet marketing seminars I have attended the speaker will teach for about 80 minutes providing valuable information as to how to build an internet business. After presenting this information they then pitch you on a product or seminar. The ones that tend to sell the most are those that have provided the most useful information, while those that simply tried to pitch their product did not sell well if at all. If you want people to follow you then you have to provide them a reason to do so. Pitching them will alienate them. Sharing useful information will draw them to you.
@mikeklingler Value v Pitching.
First of all, giving value is giving knowledge. Your knowledge of the things you learned from the things you pitch. I think people are afraid to give too much information because I hear all the time people saying I had to go the long way and learn it by myself. Therefore, people, leaders, would rather PITCH their affiliate link than teach what they've learned for free. We, as leaders and coaches need to remember to mentor with a servants heart, don't be afraid to give too much! What you give, you receive. I'm just getting started in network marketing and have met only a handful of people who will reach out and help without pitching anything. It's wonderful to know that there are a few people out there who will mentor with a servant's heart!!
Hello Mike,
Although I provided my 140 or less character answer this AM via Twitter ... here is a link to my answer by video:

Thx, Jim
wow - pretty cool experiment. Tons of people twittering about pitch vs. value. Here's my tweet
A sales pitch can be very valuable if given at the right time. Most are waaay too premature. Help 1st, sell last!
To attract prospects that trust you hold you with esteem, think of you as an expert in a specialized area should be the goal of all serious marketers. To accomplish this quality usable content is the beginng formula. Just advertising
your product or pitching your business you become susspect and more than
likely will not ultimately get the sale
Giving value is a way of building trust first. In a world of gimme gimme, it's refreshing to find value first. Our whole society is becoming shell shocked by the constant demand on our attention and finances. When we find someone who is prepared to give before they can get, we are attracted to them naturally.
