What's the Most Important Ingredient To See 'REAL' Duplication Unfold in Your Network Marketing Business, Or to Create "Exponential" Growth For ANY Business Type (Traditional or Otherwise)?
Wednesday, May 20, 2009 at 12:54AM This will help to remove the mystery as to why making lots of money in your business may not be EASY for you (yet), and how to start making it easy.
The article was born out of a response I gave to a question about duplication at RenegadeProBlog.com.
It has since grown into a bigger point about the critical importance of developing your 'Influence Factor,' which we'll discuss in detail.
We'll also explore the difference between our two featured training programs, Renegade Breakthrough Mentoring and Renegade Professional, and how each of these develop your business from two different angles that compliment one another for accelerated growth.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------(Off (((Side note & teaching point for Renegade Professional students: Notice how I am "repurposing" content here, meaning that this article started as a response to a question at RenegadeProBlog.com, but here I'm adapting it into an educational piece to share in emails, at this blog, and at other social networking sites that link back to this location, such as at Twitter, Digg, Facebook, etc. That's how you get more mileage out of one piece of content. Look for opportunities to "repurpose" your content and you'll serve more people with less effort. Also notice how this very "teaching point" is an example of what you might learn at Renegade Professional, while the main points in the rest of this article are more along the lines of what you might learn at 'Renegade Breakthrough.' Pay attention to the difference and see if you resist learning the 'bigger concepts,' such as those discussed below here today))).
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
How to Get True Duplication & Make More Money Than You Need Working Less Than You Do Right Now---
It may surprise you but the most important factor in creating duplication and exponential business growth is NOT marketing or sales skills, or any of what is normally discussed.
In a word, it's "INFLUENCE."
People respond most to a person's confidence, concepts, mindset, language, attitude and leadership more than anything else. These are a part of what I call your "Influence Factor."
As we'll discuss, increasing your Influence Factor is what creates the BIG duplication and multiplied business growth (in any business model) -- marketing is only a part of the equation.
If you're not getting the results you want it's because you haven't developed your "Influence Factor" enough (yet). This article can shave years off your learning curve because it focuses you on the things that REALLY count. These things are all related to your ability to Influence others by having a stronger business mindset and knowledge base.
Being 'Blah' in Business is REALLY Hard Work
If you have a very low "Influence Factor," your marketing will be flat, and the impression you leave on people will be blah. You'll have to scratch and claw for every dollar.
Attracting people into your business who are actually capable of duplicating your efforts (in MLM) will be nearly impossible, or at best, really (really) hard. Seeing significant growth in a traditional business (coaching, services, consulting, etc.) with a low Influence Factor is equally as hard.
However...
If you get your focus onto developing your Influence Factor, by taking the time to establish a deeper understanding of foundational business principles and strategies (like collaboration, JVs, the business development mindset and building process), and start learning the grander concepts that make for a powerful and complete marketing funnel of your own design, then "making big money" actually starts to get easy... not for the reasons most talk about, but because you become much more attractive as a business person, and other influential people will want to work with you. What they bring to the table is worth more to you than anything you could ever produce. So developing your Influence Factor is, therefore, the most valuable thing you can do. It may be all that's been missing.
People immediately sense your "Influence Factor' and when it increases by even a notch, everything you do becomes easier, grows at a more accelerated rate and with more ease because you're attracting others who have more influence who duplicate your efforts (in MLM) or who increase your business growth through partnerships (like Ann Sieg and I have done).
But there's even a bigger impact here. (By the way, just being made aware of these 'insights' like the one I'm about to share can begin to move your Influence Factor up a notch). Be open to learning from others who are sharing these kinds of insights and you move up.
Back to my point--
When you increase your "influence factor" you won't allow the people in your life right now who are pulling you down to continue to sabotage your life. You'll start to recognize who those people are and it will be scary to even consider enrolling them or doing business with them if they are of the lose-lose mindset. You'll ignore their emails and they will go away.
(If they are friends or family you can spend time with them, but be mindful of what's going on and simply spend less time with them. If you care about them tremendously communicate the problem. If they care about you they will change).
I am speaking more here today though about the people in your life related to your business.
Right now, if business is still difficult for you, we can be certain that you don't yet recognize who ALL of these "success suckers" are (the prospects, clients, associates, people in social sites and forums, etc) because you haven't learned the basic business concepts that set the winners apart from those who flounder! "Success suckers" can suck your energy and valuable resources (your focus and time) by baiting you into discussions, conflicts or talky-talk that just kills your reputation, time, and opportunity to succeed with ease.
Increase your Influence Factor and you'll spot these people fast and know either how to stay away or how to reply to show in an instant where you stand on the ladder of success. People will see this and the good ones are attracted. In an instant, everything starts to change and the money increases with ease.
Recap...
- Increasing your Influence Factor by a notch is the fastest way to make more money.
- It's the fastest way to get everything you want.
- As a catalyst for change in your life, it towers over any other attribute you can develop and it is far more important than just learning marketing alone.
Doesn't "marketing" help me improve my business?
Of course it does... developing your basic marketing skills will increase your influence factor, and that's why the Renegade Professional training program is putting so many people on the right track. Because when you begin learning basic skills that generate your own leads, and attract prospects of ANY caliber, you automatically become more influential (and attractive as a marketer) than you were before you knew how.
But there are other magnetizing elements that will increase your Influence Factor to a whole new level that focus you on learning the less obvious but far more powerful skills and insights. Knowing how to apply certain principles will have a significant impact on you. It can mean the difference between making a few hundred dollars a month, or making tens of thousands. Or between attracting 30 leads a month or 3000. It can mean the difference between being a super star that seems to be able to make all their ideas happen, vs. someone who has trouble even coming up with ideas they can believe in. These 'less obvious' skill sets are really the magical ingredients that make the bigger money come with less work, while helping more people and getting more gratification all at the same time!
Here are just some of these "influence Factoring" skills and principles (some overlap because they focus on either more general or very specific aspects of a similar topic--we dig deep):
- Collaborating, Partnering, JVs (Joint Ventures)
- Understanding the Business Process Intimately
- You and Your Business Model: Viability & Long-Term Growth
- Outsourcing & Building an All-Star Marketing Team
- Market Research: Finding and Creating a Hungry Mob
- Creating Content: Building Your Own Fort Knox
- Copy writing: Words That Sell
- First Phase of Your Marketing System: Leading With Value
- Second Phase of Your Marketing System: Closing The Sale
- The Backend: Upsell Profits = Long Term Profits
- Marketing To Your Lists: Getting Multiple Product Lines
- Traffic Generation: Stuffing Your Marketing Funnel
- Monetization: Turning Losses Into Sources of Profits
(These are just a sampling of what we cover in Renegade Breakthrough Mentoring).
You'll notice that many of the subjects listed above ARE related to marketing--but they are addressing the topic through a very different context than the basic mechanics of 'lead generation' or 'getting started' marketing at Renegade Professional--
Renegade Breakthrough gets into the deeper concepts of marketing, and relates it to partnerships, JVs, and collaborations. Any mechanics it covers are shared through the lens of a leader. You literally learn a new language and way of seeing the business world as well as your place in it. You become different--the same YOU but more confident, competent and mindful of the things that will make much BIGGER money and attract business at a level you may not presently be confident enough to expore.
In Renegade Breakthrough, we coach you with the assumption that you have the mindset of a business leader, so that over a 6 month period you actually develop into one.
It's like taking a foreign language class where you're forced to speak the 'foreign language' when you're in the classroom. By covering the basic foundational principles and strategies, but with language conceptualized through a leaders' mindset, you become the business leader naturally yourself and your Influence Factor skyrockets. You speak the language and you 'think' the language.
The bigger point--this will be felt by all you relate to and communicate with--in your content, emails, and more importantly, the decisions you end up making with your time, target audience choice, and ability to recognize the hundreds of opportunities lined up along the way that make your business easier to build bigger...
The results are mind boggling and that's why I'm working so hard to open you up to moving forward with all of this in mind.
Because this also ends up attracting higher caliber people who are also influential like you (or even more influential)--and that is what leads to duplication and exponential growth in whatever business model you're building through.
By learning the higher level skill sets (mindset and language of a business leader), you are developing your confidence and 'star qualities' that translate directly into INFLUENCE.
The Most Extraordinary Part...
What is perhaps the most incredible thing I've noticed that happens when you develop an awareness of these and other principles, is the automatic confidence and obvious general business competence increase that people 'sense' with you. That's the magical part that attracts in the super star people who can build your business at a pace you could never dream to do with a less developed group (who are less influential).
What's interesting is every 'super' successful person in business I meet knows (from experience and training) each of the fundamental mindset principles we teach in Renegade Breakthrough and EVERY unsuccessful or struggling person doesn't (and often resists learning them, which is REALLY interesting).
Renegade Breakthrough is teaching the most current business development concepts of our day--from the leadership model style onto the marketing strategies, but with real life experience from people who have done it. This is something that most college professors at a University can rarely offer (if they could they wouldn't be teaching at the University!)
Something to consider regarding the value of what is taught in Renegade Breakthrough compared to other paths people take to learn business... In Renegade Breakthrough, you are learning business and marketing skills that are arguably far more valuable than what most MBA graduate students are taught at the most expensive Universities in the world! It's amazing when you put it into context like this and consider what's happening here for people at such a low investment (I'm referring to both the Renegade Professional click by click training as well as the higher end training at Renegade Breakthrough).
But back to the topic at hand...
Factoring in Influence in Duplication or Multiplied Business Growth...
When you know how to 'make things happen' in business (such as how to attract partnerships that multiply your earnings in days, instead of years); when you understand the deeper principles that bring successful people together to work as a team; when you KNOW business like we teach it in Renegade Breakthrough, people FEEL IT in your presence and in your content (your Squidoo Lens, Ezines, Blog, emails, etc).
Then what happens?
You attract higher caliber people who make your business grow. "Star players" become interested in associating with you, doing business with you, and follow your recommendations--and THAT is what creates the truly exciting duplication or exponential business growth.
I'm pursued by star players often now, but I can remember when such people would make me nervous if I were to even have the chance to talk with them! I had NO IDEA how to do business with a star player, let alone get them to approach me!
Some of these people have "bigger names" and greater influence than I have, but they want to do business with me because I've learned the principles we teach, one-at-a-time, at Renegade Breakthrough.
People often ask me, "Mike, what's the most important thing I should be doing?"
Whether it's with Ann and me by enrolling at Renegade Breakthrough to accelerate this process, or it's starting with a simple "intention" as you go forward with Renegade Professional, developing influence is the #1 most important attribute to develop.
Start with the resources you have and grow your influence from there--even if that means starting with Renegade Professional without Renegade Breakthrough if you're still just getting started with the basics. The key point is... understand that your goal is actually developing your influence factor. No system, promise or opportunity will EVER take away the need for it.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
If you focus on obtaining influence (which is your ability to attract higher caliber people who want to do business with you) this will create duplication and multiplied growth more than any other one thing you can focus on.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Network Marketers often have it backwards...
"To get duplication, keep the system so simple that even stupid people can do it." (I'm quoting my upline here who used to say, "Keep it simple stupid," or "KISS". He later changed this to "Keep it short and simple," which still stood for KISS... I imagine because some were offended by the word 'stupid.')
I think this famous network marketing motto is completely off base. It puts people's focus on the wrong side of the fence. My upline who used to say "KISS" made $300,000+ a month, but I didn't notice one person on his team who he worked with that wasn't a star player--he attracted them because he knew the principles that make you INFLUENTIAL.
And THAT is why he saw the duplication.
There was a time when I could enroll a lot of people into my organization by working hard all day, every day, at an intensity few would endure for long--The end result was OK, but nothing close to my potential and it wasn't at all rewarding because I knew I wasn't tapping into my potential. I knew I couldn't help others tap into their potential if I wasn't.
Once I learned the principles we're teaching in Renegade Breakthrough Mentoring, business became easy. Because I'd been working so hard for so long, I was able to discover the "Missing" principles very quickly once I stumbled onto the first one (I think it took me about 6 months from the point where I found the first missing principle, before I found and applied them all because they interrelate). I was able to do that so quickly without a program like Renegade Breakthrough because I was investing tens of thousands of dollars on coaches and training of all types, while having 15 years of hard knocks experience under my belt.
(((Note I didn't have enough money to cover the cost of the coaches and training--I used my credit cards and maxed out many of them after applying for more than a person should probably have... I was spending more than I made for sure. I am not recommending everyone does this, not at all. But I share this so you realize I had to make sacrifices... big ones. I had to take risks. These are risks you don't have to take because we have boiled down tens of thousands of dollars of training and coaching, resources and 30+ years combined experience and put it into a $2800 course))).
The coaches I spent tens of thousands on did help tremendously, but none of it was even close to what people come away with in Renegade Breakthrough.
Once I got the missing principles, business became really easy for me. So easy, in fact, I'm now faced regularly with a situation where I have to brush aside opportunities that would net $50,000+ in a month just so I can focus on even greater opportunities I'm still finishing up. I laugh at that now when not so long ago to make 50K in a month seemed like a pipe dream (though I should note I knew the day would come when it would be real, which has a lot to do with why it now is).
Now I even find myself taking time to relax when I know a 3-5 hour investment (like creating and sending a well developed email) could make me 2-3K or more. Sometimes I just don't care about the 2-3K because it all comes so easy and a person does have to rest from time to time. I have to say it's a little weird how easy business has become when it used to be so difficult--and it's all due to the principles that create influence.
It's absolutely incredible when I consider that I am not any SMARTER and don't work any harder than I did before.
It's about having influence, so you can attract higher quality people to your business.
How does one acquire that influence?
I've never seen a course like Renegade Breakthrough Mentoring before. It teaches how to develop this influence BY LEARNING and APPLYING principles like how to collaborate, how to 'think and talk the language of successful business. I guess you could say it takes the mystery out of why business is so easy for some people and not others.
Business CAN be easy. Making more money than you need working less than you do is realistic if you develop influence. Duplication and multiplied business growth happens through influence more so than anything else you could focus on or acquire. No system, promise or opportunity will replace it.
Whatever you do from here, focus on developing your "Influence Factor" as you go forward. You do this by looking deeper into what makes successful business people and marketers successful.
Dig deeper into understanding the mechanics, rather than just learning enough to generate leads. Associate as much as possible with those who are successful so you can not just rub shoulders but LEARN the way they think about business and their role in it. You'll notice they are not necessarily smarter than you are. If they ARE really smart (some are), you will definitely see strengths you have that they don't have--but they do know something you don't and it has everything to do with their Influence Factor.
Study training that digs deeper to take yourself to an entirely new level. Study the foundational stuff--like what's listed above that's covered in Renegade Breakthrough--this is the fastest way to making money with ease. If I didn't know this to be true I wouldn't say it. And I can't emphasize it enough!
Partners in successful development!

Renegade Breakthrough speeds you up significantly in acquiring significant influence, which can multiply your ability to produce results by 10x to even a 100x what you're able to do now.
Renegade Professional gets you set up in your marketing to generate leads, start monetizing and to get a business up and running online to brand yourself and attract business. Adding Renegade Breakthrough Mentoring to this will accelerate everything you have going on and that you move into by increasing your Influence Factor, which attracts others to you who have a higher Influence Factor (and who have more power to make things move).
If you can, enroll in Renegade Breakthrough.
If the timing isn't good, start from where you are and develop from there.
Don't measure your success by comparing yourself to others. This makes as much sense as measuring your success at the gym to others who may lift more weights than you or who have been training on the cardio machines longer than you. Measure your success by your progress and give yourself time to develop as you would in the gym.
Keep your Influence Factor in mind and look for ways to develop it faster and with more ease--because it is the key to unlocking your true potential.
Do this and you will win.

Mike,
This article resonates with me at my very core. In my time with Renegade Professional, I have been focused on learning specific marketing skills and how to use tools, and I have learned a great deal. Clearly, my role as a Super Guide, Coach and trainer for Renegade Professional is a reflection of that.
Still, there has always been something missing, and I have had this nagging feeling that I was missing the forest for the trees. You have just cleared the underbrush for me with one fell swoop, and highlighted exactly what was missing in my development: My INFLUENCE.
I just recently joined the Breakthrough Mentoring Program, and already I can feel my "influence factor" is on the rise. An interview I conducted with Ann Sieg is posted as bonus material there, and I am now being approached and praised by people who would have intimidated me right out of my shoes a few months ago.
I heard once that if you want to gauge your chances of success, look at the five people you associate with the most, and average their level of success. This makes so much sense to me now. If you want to develop a successful mindset, associate with others who share this mindset.
I have never seen a more dedicated, focused group of "go-getters" than the people I have started to meet in the Renegade Breakthrough Mentoring Program. I am truly excited to be associating with, and learning alongside, each and every one of them. I know my own success will be accelerated through my studying and collaborating with them.
I'd like to personally thank you and Ann for putting this course together, and for offering it at such an incredibly reasonable price. I have participated in other business development courses which offered far less value for far more money. You are true leaders in this industry, and your success is well-deserved. What's REALLY great is that I now see the potential for myself, and know that I, too, can achieve this level of success.
Lane Romero-Reiss
P.S. - Yes, it is 4:30 am here. Since joining the Renegade Breakthrough Mentoring Program, I am finding that my mind is racing with new ideas, and I am up much earlier each day to get started implementing them. If I look sleep-deprived in some of my upcoming videos, now you know why, but it is WELL worth it!
Wow Lane, all I can say is you are totally there!
I think anyone who reads my article in full and then your comment will really 'get' what I meant about "feeling and sensing as someone's Influence Factor increases a notch or two." A person's language changes, their ideas change, it's still them but just more capable of recognizing what needs to be done without fighting it. And of course, you just attract a different crowd who ends up doing a lot of the work for you (to everyone's benefit). You find one win-win after another.
What I love about the process, in hindsight looking back as I made huge strides in short order, was that when you get aligned with the right people and resources (information), and things are tuned into the right station like you do with a radio, it all really starts to move and one ah-ha leads to another new meet up with someone who transforms your business. It can move fast.
Lane, you've clearly hit a sweet spot. Stay on the "Influence Factor" path and things will really start to roll with ease. I emphasize "with ease."
Thank you for sharing--really good post!

Mike-
This is great information and inspiration. I've just recently started with Renegade Pro and will move on to Renegade Breakthrough Marketing ASAP but I have no doubt that time will arrive shortly. Network Marketing is an amazing business model but as an artist without a strong built-in network and very little personal influence in the nutritional arena it's been almost torturous. Truly, I've been floundering - knowing I have in my possession something of tremendous value but being unable to work with it successfully has been challenging. Believing in myself, believing in the business and the company is all there but now I've finally found a means to let the business work - through me. Now, it's just a matter of time and focus. Thank-you for your wisdom, your commitment, your collaboration with Ann and your collective ability to share it with us newbees! I sincerely look forward every day to more time together!
Thanks again.
Barb
I think you are speaking in 2 different voices when you say that the system is not important but the 'influence' is. You would recall making 'Renegade Marketer ebook' as the standard for making your Renegade university and Ann Sieg talks about having a system that would make a difference. An automated system, that is, with a methodology. And if it is going to be my 'influence', then obviously it will be more an hindrance than a support for my downlines in my networking business. Please decide one way or the other.
Cheers
Badri
Badri,
It's all about focus and where you put your emphasis.
If one puts their faith in a system and believes IT is the key to your success, they flounder.
If one develops their "Influence Factor," and puts their faith into themselves (building up their knowledge of business and marketing), they eventually succeed with ease--and they're unstoppable. It's easy for them.
You asked for me to decide one way or another --"system or influence factor"--My article clearly outlines that influence is more powerful than a system.
Your mindset and focus, (and attitude) make up your ability to influence others, just like the mindset, focus and attitude of your post, it decides who you attract. Your Influence Factor is woven into everything you do, including how you use a system (of which this very blog is a part of).
A system is a tool, like a computer. Your "Influence Factor" is what turns it on (or off).
Mike
Hi Mike,
Talk about influence. Just last night, I was agonizing about how to become the consultant I want to be and how would I be able to lead others. Your article cleared up my quandry and brought the focus I need and will be directing toward my efforts. I, as probably many of us do, have been focusing in a direction that keeps me working hard. And, you're right, it is very hard work!
With the information you share that is so obviously heartfelt it jumps off the page, I have direction and clarity to apply my energies to the person I feel and see internally and who is growing towards a person of influence.
As an artist, Barb's comments above resonnate deeply. What Renegade Pro has done for me is that it has given me the opportunity to dig deep and begin polishing what I have to offer.
Creating a team by duplication that is taught in old network marketing flies in the face of developing your uniqueness and why it was so sufocating to me and probably to many out there.
Finding Renegade University was such a breath of fresh air. I loved it from the minute I began.
Renegade Pro sweeps the path with direction and support. What out-shines it all, by far, are the people I get to know and work with. Certainly the friendships and partnerships I have formed out-distances my expectations and are hugely responsible for any of the success I have achieved. I can only imagine that Renegade Breakthrough would quadruple that x100.
I am thrilled to be part of Renegade Pro and as a Super Guide and look forward to being able to join Renegade Breakthrough. I feel the magic already!
There's one more very important part. I want to thank you for reaching out way back when to all of us who would never have landed here if it weren't for your willingness to teach us, click by click, how to do even the most basic of internet skills.
Now, it's on to confidence, concepts, mindset, language, attitude and leadership! See you at the gym.
Hi Mike, really enjoyed your article and couldn't agree more. Would you say that your influence factor has a lot to do with posture? How you are on the phone, when you speak to people face to face, your chosen words?
i recently purchased Renegade Professional and have learned so much, more than I've learned in my years with my MLM company. I believe that people are unsuccessful in MLM because they're just not given the right tools to move their business along.
So thank you for all the great information.
Jackie
Mike,
THERE IS NO DOUBT IN MY MIND that the Breakthrough Mentoring Program is well worth getting into for anyone who is serious about their business - and boy do you set an example!!
But for those of us who are new to Network Marketing, new to online business, new to Renegade Professional (loving every minute of it) and very much in overwhelm, do you still recommend going ahead with the Breakthrough Mentoring Program? Do you still recommend it for those who have only a maximum of 15 hours a week to commit? Or do you recommend waiting until the next round (even if the price goes way up).
Thank you for the article and thanks for offering this fantastic opportunity, Laura
Mike,
This article cuts to the heart of our industry and has revealed the truth to me in the same way that all three of Ann Sieg's books have. This is so powerful! Truly one of those "ah-ha" moments. As John Maxwell always says, "Everything rises and falls with leadership" and "Leadership is influence; nothing more, nothing less". Influence is the key. Better yet, you're not just telling us that we need it, you're helping us acquire it!
I was one of the first ten people to join Renegade Pro after the re-launch, and am so excited about the opportunity to meet you and Ann in person. I'm also convinced that Renegade Breakthrough is the next step towards success.
THANK YOU for choosing to share your knowledge and expertise in such an easy-to-understand way.
Debbi Vesey
Hi Laura,
In the case you described (and the way you described it) I'd suggest waiting until you've gotten through your 90 day action guide. You're already on the fast track! I enjoy using the gym analogy. You're laying a foundation right now to build up the endurance to sprint. You'll be surprised how quickly you move forward if you really use those 15 hours per week optimally right now. Keep going and when the timing is right, you can jump into Renegade Breakthrough.
Debbi, it's interesting you brought up John Maxwell! I read those books a few times over in my early 20's... it was very much a part of the 'mindset' development process I had to "grow" through!
Jackie, yes I would definitely say that posture is very much related. I'd say it's what comes out. Some people slouch while others have their chin held high and shoulders back (confidence)--this posture shines through in your words and 'quieter' communication signals that tell others what's on your mind. If you're learning the foundational stuff of business, your posture will work in your favor. If not, it works against you. So you're right on.
Donnalynn, welcome to the Super Guides--I've seen you around in there and though we haven't had time to fully connect I'm sure we will. Thank you for your comments here and for your commitment to a bigger vision of the Super Guides! We'll get you more plugged into everything it has to offer as we go forward--just keep doing what you're doing!
Thank you everyone for taking the time to connect here with us!
Mike
Hi Mike,
And when I was just wringing my brain to come up with a topic about something to post in my blog, here comes Mike to the rescue. Reviewing your article for my blog doubly ingrained in me the importance of "Influence" and how it is the real measure of one's success.
Your article was not only inspiring but also an eye opener as I, like many others, have always considered duplication of a system as the most important issue for those we teach. I always wondered why others may be more successful than I, and the "Influence Factor" answered that perfectly. Thanks for the insight.
Hi Mike
I find your insight to be extraordinary. It's like you are inside my head answering me personally. I've often wondered how comedians can create material that sounds so "everyday" and relate it to such a huge audience who "get it" even though they never really thought about the humour of the situation beforehand. You and Anne make the complex ordinary, the ordinary interesting and the inspiration to pick up and discover a second wind almost irresistible.
Your timing is impeccable. Just when I start to wane, up you pop, empowering renewed confidence.
Thanks for the nudge and reigniting the fuse. I'm always pumped when I read your emails.
Hi Mike,
Your blog really hit home. I have been trying to figure out what has been missing in me, in my biz, in my success and you are right when you say "influence". When I interact with clients, I "do" all the right things, but I can tell that I don't have the gravitas that I need to have influence. This is the missing piece. And I have been chomping at the bit to really get this next piece.
Having said that, I'm just on the cusp of being ready for Ren Breakthrough. I easily apply the techniques in RenPro, and I get all the strategies, and I have growing amount of content, but really it is only the advanced beginner stage. I'm not sure if the is the time for me to jump or not. I'm not intimidated by what you teach; I have ease with the internet--it is mostly the mindset that I must develop.
A few questions about Breakthrough:
1. How big will the enrollment be? I want to get a sense of the size of the community.
2. Will Breakthrough be open for continuous enrollment or do you have to enroll now and then it closes? If it closes, what is the expected time to the next opening?
3. If I take Breakthrough and need extra time to really implement the material, do I have a continuous membership to the site, or does my access close down after the 6 months? Can I re-take the course?
Thank you for the answers to these questions. I'm excited to join Breakthrough, but I want to be sure it is right for me right now.
Julia
PS. I may have accidentally submitted a post just before this one. I was typing and suddenly all my typing disappeared! My apologies if this is a duplicate.
Mike - as I read this I was thinking about where I was this time last year - confused frustrated and scratching my head. This year I am leading people to me by what I am doing and others are watching. I get comments all the time that make me see the work I am putting into what I am doing is working. The circle gets wider as you grow.
The people I have met in the Renegade and learned from are amazing. If I don't know how or can't finish an idea I have this wonderful group to ask questions and they will send the mind to spinning onto a new path. Not only am I working less - but I am now having fun at what I am doing.
Hey Mike,
Awesome blog! Including all of the other post that people place with their comments. I agree with ALL of what Lane has said about needing to surround yourself with influence, successful mindset and professional people. I feel the same way. Basically, it is like what my mom taught me while I was growing up "You are known by the company you keep." So, I need to surround myself with successful mindset people. So, I can learn from them or maybe even teach them something.
I have a very small influence circle and limits my growth to influence others. As a newbie in all of your programs and reading everyone's comments it gives me a sense of empowerment that I WILL change for the better. Simply put all of the members that I have connections with I will learn from their influence my surroundings.
Keep bringing on all of the GREAT knowledge and teachings.
Mike,
Thanks for an insightful article that resonates with so many people on different levels.
In my eyes, the "influence factor" is much more than posture. In old school MLM, we are taught to have posture. Many MLMs teach us that we have to believe that we have the best opportunity ever and if people don't join us then it is their loss. That is a "duplicatable" type of posture because it is a mantra that acts like a badge for people to wear. What you are talking about isn't something people wear on the outside, it is something we believe on the inside, and not about our company, but about ourselves.
Believing in yourself isn't always an easy thing for people to do. Especially when they've spent months or years putting in the effort and not getting anywhere, or not getting as far as they should get. That is where coaching can be a huge help. Programs like Renegade Breakthrough Mentoring offer tremendous mentoring and support. And coaching programs like the one Barbara Silva is working on with you is another valuable resource.
A final word on duplication. As you say the "KISS" philosophy is all about dumbing it down so that the average Joe/Jane can get it and enroll a few people. When I was doing MLM the old school way, I never felt challenged and never felt like I was truly using my skills and talents. What I love about attraction marketing is that it allows us to leverage our own strengths and be true to who we are.
Thanks for sharing and for taking the time to read everyone's feedback!
Hi Mike, I believe every word you typed here, and I know that I am going to see great resulst as I increased my Influence Factors and attract the big stars. I can feel it, I can see it, It's real.
Thanks a million
Adrian
Great article and I can relate very intimately with the message because I have been saying something similar for years. I've seen many have great success and although they may have had a system it was their ability to influence that was the juice to make the system work.
It's been a struggle for me to develop that level of influence and never found a good resource to teach it. I did not come from a family of influence nor were they entrepreneurial. We all lacked real confidence in ourselves and I've spent many years working through my own personal insecurities and self doubt.
I think the ability to influence comes from multiple sources.
First, it comes from self confidence and self belief. This can come from a variety of experiences or upbringing or personality. It seems natural for some but it is often learned from proper teaching or encouragement. Confidence and self belief doesn't necessarily dissolve fear but instead bolsters the courage to take steps or actions you wouldn't otherwise.
Next it comes from good communication skills whether they come naturally or are learned but the ability to connect with and relate to people is a key element for developing their confidence and trust in you.
Next it comes from having a deep understanding of how the business works. This knowledge lends to knowing what to do now and what to do next in a smooth transition from one step to another demonstrating leadership through control without fumbling or hesitation.
Just my three cents worth and I appreciated your article. Someone is finally doing something about it. Thanks!
Mike;
I come from a corporate background and I'm a sports official (basketball) and you're right, you need to think like a winner and believe in yourself as a winner before you can become a winner. Your body language, choice of words, even the tone emphasis of words spoken can be influential to others (not hysterical or dramatic). People join people, not companies, when looking to to do business. And it's leadership and influence that are the biggest factors in business today.
Thanks so much Mike for this great post. I also enjoyed reading the comments!
I can say that I already have some degree of Influence because friends would come to me for counseling. When they follow my advice they do great. But when, in few instances, they don't follow my advice they run into trouble.
My challenge right now is how to influence a greater number of people (outside my current circle of friends). Specifically, my challenge is how to have that greater influence online.
Hope you can help me and all others similarly situated.
Once again thanks so much Mike for your Leadership (=Influence).
Hi Mike
As I intermingled with the leaders in my MLM, I knew they had influence and a network of associates already. Instead of looking at them through the looking glass, I will be able to stand next to them as I go through the training and develop my influence. A niggling thought for me was also how I could help downline to develop influence and become successful business associates.
AS with Laura, I am very new. However,I jumped in with both feet to both Renegade Pro and Breakthrough( on April 2). Can I still do my 90 day action guide and remain in Breakthrough as I get my foundation laid?
Thanks for the clarification Mike. I like the way you have approached the subject. Some leadership training courses I have attended with other companies, spoke about the effects rather than the cause of influence. I find the ways you wish to promote influence, practical.
The circle of influence is probably one of the most important parts of a leader's character. The ability to get all of the team / customers to work towards the same goals and objectives.
The KISS principle has it place and usefulness in developing systems that are easy to use. Developing complex systems only causes more confusion. I agree that the KISS principle does not replace any of the essential leadership qualities, such as influence and posture.
I have always been one to check out the leadership first, before I join a company. The first question I ask myself before starting with a new company is: Can I learn from the leadership in this company? The answer here is definitely a YES.
Hi Mike,
This is a great and very skilful marketing tactic. Is it just me that senses the “funneling” here or it really is? You know the “Free product” leading to “ Low price item” that leads to the “Higher price item”. It’s the emerging pattern here. The dust didn’t settle down yet from all these great praises said in all these countless emails prior to opening the “ Marketing Merge” that suppose to be almost as great as invention of the sliced bread. Now that enough people signed up to it and become a pre-selected audience, we have a new “offer”. It appears that the “Marketing Merge” is good and the “but” is coming here, but “The Renegade Breakthrough Mentoring Program” is even better. Not for a moment I am negating the great job that you and Ann are doing and I personally signed up to the “Marketing Merge”. I’m sure that you and Ann have good intentions and want to give us as much education as possible so we can succeed in our endeavors but I have a feeling that I have been manipulated. It started with “The Attraction Marketer's Manifesto” that led to the “Marketing Merge” which leads to “The Renegade Breakthrough Mentoring Program” an who knows what else. As I said before maybe it’s just me, maybe I’m oversensitive.
Marek, if you don't mind me asking, what part of the world are you from?
You dislike marketing in general (pre-education, upsells, downsell, etc), which I can relate to, perhaps because my parents had very socialistic views and being a critical thinker by nature I grew up questioning all the ads on TV and saw them as manipulative and often evil. But I am not upset when the values are healthy. For example, if someone's intention is to empower people, I don't see it as manipulation, I see it as education and influence.
I choose words like 'manipulation' when I watch ads about pharmaceutical drugs or sugary cereals that target kids, or alcohol that makes you look cool, or Red Bull targeting teenagers, which kills the liver.
I was a critical thinker so I'm empathetic to your attitude, though it won't make you any money or give you power or influence in this world we live in today.
To share how deep my emphathy for your 'struggle' runs, when I was younger, I wanted to escape a role in capitalism completely--when I was 19 I thought I would find a cool island untouched by the evil ways of the world and just live there all my life.
Fast forward 17 years, and 2 kids later, here I am! And now I'm teaching others as mindful of all this stuff as I have ever known anyone to be, how to mindfully make money by helping others. And yes, marketing must be learned.
I'm not complaining about your complaint--but pointing things out for what they are. Do you complain at the checkout counter when your 'down sold' gum and magazines?
Are you upset when you're asked 'if you want fries with that?'
Are you upset when someone give you a booklet about 'the importance of nutrition' before sending a brochure to buy?
This is the world we live in and if you were to take it away, nearly every luxury item you enjoy, from the modern shape of your toothbrush to the vast food selections available to you at the store (basically, the economy) would end as you know it. Marketing makes the world you know go around.
Hey, I look forward to a utopian society where we all share and strive to contribute like we see on Star Trek, but until then I think we're teaching you ethical marketing strategies and, yes, as you've pointed out, we're leading by example.
You'll struggle in this capitalistic marketing driven culture of the 21st century until you flip your focus. Presently your mindset will keep you either struggling, or working for someone else who, guess what, would not exist if marketing (that you call manipulation) didn't exist.
That's about all I have to say about that.
But again, I am curious what country you're from--I hear this attitude a lot from places outside the U.S.
Mike
P.S. It is very important for those seeking their path to success (by success I mean you love what you do, know what to do, can make more money than you need, and you truly help people)-- you must first embrace marketing and business fundamentally. It starts in your head (mindset).
Than you Mike!
For this great and life-chaging material. I really believe that a success in attraction marketing and the business itself is because of the Influence factor, which everybody MUST develop to be successful.
Regards and more blessings!
Ognyan. :)

Ognyan, I've been hearing about you from Didi (who is also from Bulgaria) and it sounds like you have a great mindset for business. Thanks for connecting!

Hi Julia,
Wanted to answer your question:
1. How big will the enrollment be? I want to get a sense of the size of the community.
I don't have the latest stats but I believe there are about 400-500 RBMP presently. It's true that we have to watch the growth to some extent but I believe the price point is allowing us to maintain a smaller group size, which allows for more interaction. It's also naturally attracting those with a higher 'success consciousness' in general, which makes for a richer study environment -- felt in the the blog where interns rub shoulders and assist one another.
2. Will Breakthrough be open for continuous enrollment or do you have to enroll now and then it closes? If it closes, what is the expected time to the next opening?
It won't close; it had closed before only because we knew we'd have a surge of enrollments when we initially opened it up and wanted to address their needs (less predictable when a larger group comes in all at once). Now we will be able to keep it open; however, the 12 month free Renegade Professional membership, which is worth about $600, will be go away on Sunday and I doubt we'd do that again.
3. If I take Breakthrough and need extra time to really implement the material, do I have a continuous membership to the site, or does my access close down after the 6 months? Can I re-take the course?
Yes, you'll have access to it indefinitely and can go through it at your own pace, even far beyond the 6 months--which will be recommended. It will be something that you would continue to refer to as you develop and grow out your business.
One thing I should mention is that there is a benefit to joining now rather than later for those who can. This is because there is a group there who are still early in the process and by developing along with them there are some big advantages (connecting with them and communicating through the business development process is a huge advantage). Those who join later will be joining when that larger initial group of students will have advanced and will likely be less available as a large group to collaborate with you--they will have already found their way and advanced. It's more than just lessons from us, they're implementing and discussing and working through challenges together.
There will always be new students so that element will continue to be there but there does seem to be something special about being with such a large group who are all at the same place at the same time developing and interacting through the lessons together. Just something to consider.
Hope this helps!
Mike
Thank you so much, Mike. Your answer really does clarify.
I had not intended to consider Breakthrough. To be honest, especially with the hype around the first opening of RenPro, I felt a little like Marek. I had enough and I didn't want to be manipulated into more spending (when my business can't support it).
But having started RenPro and seeing how I easily I can create a web of contacts, I'm seeing the value in the training. And after just doing a consultation (from a lead from my website!) and feeling that what I need now is exactly what you suggest--INFLUENCE--I'm now considering the deeper training.
I really, really appreciate you taking the time to answer my questions. If I weren't balancing the many priorities of a family (I really relate to you saying your credit cards were maxed out from training), I would have jumped at this the moment is was released! So far all the information you have given has been so valuable I can't express my thanks enough.
And besides that--it has all been FUN! I'm having a great time. Marketing in your style has been the most fun marketing that I have ever had.
Marek--I know that the marketing of the Ren products has been heavy, but what they teach is great. Give the social network marketing a try. It doesn't feel manipulative because all you are doing is making contact with real people. You get to know them first, and then you can offer them help when they ask for it. It's really quite enjoyable. :)
Thank you very much, Mike.
Julia
Mike,
Thanks for this incredible post! It really focused me on the heart of the Renegade University, Renegade Pro and Breakthrough work.
My background is in adult learning and teaching after a first career in early childhood and special education. I have moved from one continent to another and back again, raised a family, had multiple careers and many "jobs".
I thought network marketing would be a piece of cake. I was recruited on the strength of my people skills and my experience as a coach and trainer. Or, so I thought. It turns out that what was missing was my "sphere of influence". All those people I needed to put on my list and talk to and recruit for my organization.
No worries! My mentor said--just recruit them. You don't need a sphere of influence if you recruit people to your team who already have one. Missing in this plan? How the heck was I supposed to attract these people to me and my team, my leadership?
It may be my age (which I am NOT sharing here) or a distorted self-image, but I really believed that I would succeed in business building on my strengths. As I failed to grow a successful network marketing business, failing to build a successful team, I have never in my life felt my confidence take such a hit. At the time, I knew I had become "unattractive", but didn't know how to re-build my level of confidence.
After a year or so of working in Renegade Pro in fits and starts, I can say this with confidence: when you engage with the program and keep putting one foot in front of the other, you will succeed. As you engage in Renegade Pro and Renegade Breakthrough and keep reaching out to partner with others, you will feel the change you have been working toward and achieve the business success you desire.
Thanks for your work and leadership, Mike. Let's SHINE!
Kate Williams, Achieve Marketing
Mike, Your post was excellent. I am a newbie, an older generation so techie stuff is challenging to me. Two or three years ago I received emails from Ann. They were very interesting and I read them all. It was a time in my life I had to much going on to join her. Then her emails stopped coming. About 3 months ago magically Ann's emails started again. It was the rite time and here I am in RenPro and Breakthrough trying to absorb all this great information and put it to use to build a business that I desparately need for retirement. I am trying to keep it all in order, which is hard because there is so much interesting info that it's hard not to try to take it all in at once. I haven't gotten any content up yet but will get there soon. I wish I had been in Pro before as it would have been easier, but I am having fun learning and communicating with others who are so willing to help. You have a wonderful program that can reach any age and any level of ability. Thank you and Ann so much for your generosity.

The comments to this post have been almost as valuable as the post itself. :)
Mike - this is an extremely persuasive and effectively written piece. As others have intimated - we can learn as much from watching what you do, as we can from listening to what you say.
Using your gym analogy - I'm admiring the Renegaders who are ready to lift those huge weights in the Breakthrough Mentoring Class. While the benefits of getting in with the freshman class are very tempting, I remain resolute in my focus to build from here to there. Step-by-step.
I'm accelerating, I'm leaning into the work, I'm hustling...
But I'm focused.
Not taking up on the Breakthrough offer doesn't mean it's not a good offer. It may just mean it's not the next step on your personal plan right now.
Just as we have to block out enticing offers from the broader Internet Marketing / MLM world, to avoid overwhelm...
We also have to block out enticing offers from within the Renegade family.
It would be like jumping from Day 5 to Day 90 on your Action Guide... because the lesson on Day 90 is valuable.
I plan to buy and read "INFLUENCE: THE PSYCHOLOGY OF PERSUASION", by Robert Cialdini as a start. Ann, and many other Intermet Marketing gurus, recommend this book.
For those who aren't joining Breakthrough, perhaps we can start a virtual book club in the month of June, and review this book together?
I'll be ready for Breakthrough before long, Mike. Save a spot for me.
To your continued success,
Bolaji Oyejide.
Mike this is a great post and one I worked hard to get others to understand in my coaching class.
The simple thing here to prove your point is that when you take a group of people in the same MLM company, give them the same training, the same KISS system, even the same up line to help them with 3-way calls, you find that all of them are not successful at the same level. In fact, many more fail then succeed.
But when you look at the ones who did succeed, they all where very good at influencing other people to join, to buy, even to lead.
I joined Renegade Pro about a year ago and I have invested a lot of money this past year, even buying things that you said are optional. When Renegade Breakthrough was first offered, I thought it was something I really didn't need since I already had a successful business go on.
But that was far from the truth because it is speeding up my learning curve and causing me to do things that I once thought would be years in the making but are instead now turning into getting them set up in months!
Yes it is a lot to take in and learn, but I don't know anywhere one could get this kind of training for the price you both offer it here. For that matter, I don't know of anyone teaching this at all!
As far as the amount of money I spent investing in me, due to your program offering monetizeation, and by me putting into action what you teach, I have earned back about 7 times what I spent so far.
The exciting thing to look forward to is that my investments will always be lower than my return. And that the spread will become wider as I move along.
Even investing $10,000 a month now in my marketing, does not look the same as it one did only a year ago.
This is sooooo worth it!!!
Thanks again for all you do,
Bob Andolina
Mike,
Great article and it really rings true for me. I joined the Breakthrough Group shortly after joining Pro without going through the University, so at the beginning overwhelmed is an understatement. But I plugged along, often times very emotionally wondering if I had made a mistake trying to undertake all of this while developing my MLM business. But I followed your advise, and kept plugging along. I watched the 3rd training Webinar on Monday afternoon this week a bit late, but the most amazing thing happened. 2 days later I attracted a very influential prospect into my MLM business, someone I have had my eye on for a while, but had not approached and he approached me. Somehow, I am internalizing this material even though I often feel over whelmed and behind the rest of the group. Since I have joined the Breakthrough, I have felt a shift in my business even though I am far from being profitable, I know I will be in the near future and will see the huge successes come. Thanks to you and Ann for the incredible training and I look forward to session #4.

One thing I tell all my students who are MLM folks is the same thing I learned:
Once you master marketing, you wake up one day and realize that you don't need an MLM company in order to be successful. You know how to get traffic, you know how to say something that makes them buy, you know how to make the sale. So at that point, why would you settle for 15 or 20 or 25% commission when you could source the product yourself and make 60-80%?
Let's shatter the myth of duplication once and for all right now...everyone reading this blog and comments should understand these ideas:
1. Once you learn how to market yourself online, it should seem obvious that you don't necessarily need an mlm. Nothing wrong with having one, of course. I'm not anti-MLM. It's just that when you understand how to properly market yourself, bring web traffic visitors to your online real estate locations, and know how to position yourself (and your copy) that gets people buying...
Why would you settle for a 25% commission when you could create your own product and make 60%?
2. All the people I know, and people I look up to who are successful at MLM are doing what the others ARE NOT. It has always struck me as a blatant contradiction that duplication is a good thing, yet everyone needs to have a Unique Selling Proposition (USP).
Let me put it more bluntly, duplication in marketing is bad, not good.
Duplication is copying a USP, and when you copy a USP, it's no longer Unique, and that makes you are a diluted "somebody else."
3. So where does this leave the majority of people, especially those beginners and intermediate marketers?
It leaves you to learn HOW TO market; HOW TO create your own fundamental foundation of influence; it forces you to think about, and I quote from the great Perry Marshall --
"I've defined marketing as 'helping people who need each other find each other' and that is best accomplished by clearly and effectively communicating who you are, which of course requires that you know who you are in the first place."
The BIG Question you should wake with every morning as you look into the mirror:
What value do you offer?
Value, in the attraction model, is your personality + "the conversation” you invoke or inspire and continually come back to, or the crowd you gather ‘round yourself, which is about the topics, and in alignment with what you enjoy (that’s your business) and doing so using the proper tools and web locations to set it all up (the mechanics of it all).
You have to take time to get familiar with these tools and web locations. You have to give yourself time to mature into these things. Depending on your level of experience, and the challenges you face assimilating to these technical aspects, it can take months.
If you know that, and communicate it effectively, you attract not just the right customers, but the right employees, partners and investors. The consistency and believability of your message is contagious.
BOTTOM LINE:
Decide what value you're willing to give – the promise you can make to yourself, and the others that are inspired to join your “conversation” – then set up the BASIC components FIRST.
That’s the reason you all should be here.
This comes BEFORE you start asking yourself or saying aloud:
• How do I make an additional 500-1000 per month?
• How do I make 10K per month?
• How do I sell 5 ebooks per week?
• How do I get 10-15 new reps in my business per month?
• How do I find a system that does these things for me?
It’s that mindset that keeps you focused on the wrong things.
The only thing that ends up happening when you ask those kinds of questions is you become a consumer – you end up on the other side of transaction than what you want to be. I see this all the time, people purchase resources when all they need to do is use what’s within Renegade Professional for $49 per month, and some of the tools that go with it i.e. SBI, WordPress, Renegade Network Marketer - whatever.
When you feel you have these things down, and you want to specialize then you can go outside of Renegade Professional for other resources.
One Last Thing...
If what you do with the best hours of your day is not also the thing you’re passionate about, stop right now! Stop right now and confront the cold hard facts for what they are:
• No amount of effective training, time management skills, productivity tips and tricks or goal setting know-how will replace the critical missing ingredient of your life: passion. If it’s not passion then it has to be a Significant Emotional Reason.
Just my free advice (and worth every penny),
Eric Walker
The only thing ever duplicated in the history of marketing is FAILURE! The 97% failure rate ( most likely higher) speaks volumes and is proof enough. The word duplication has no place in this industry. The word duplication was most likely started in this industry by the direct sales, old school "good ole boys" network.
In other words, cons teaching cons; not to mention brainwashing! The word duplication is thrown around like loose change; it makes me sick!
You're dead on with everything else Mike. Keep it coming brother!

Hi Mike,
I was thinking why I wrote my previous comment on the 20 May 09. Maybe ‘manipulation’ wasn’t the best choice of word. It’s not that I dislike marketing in general and it was not a socialistic point of view. I wrote it because I felt disappointed.
I have no problem with Butterfly Marketing method which offers you strait away up sell or if you can’t afford it or you think is to expensive you get down sell offer of the same product but cut version. When I purchased “Magnetic Sponsoring” and Mike Dillard offered me other products if I wanted to learn more I had no problem with that either. Also I have no problem with “one time offers” on websites but these are one-time sales. I pay once for a specific product if I want to learn more I purchase another one.
Although I expected something else from paid membership site especially after all that hype that gave me an impression that I will learn everything I will need to know to achieve a success in network marketing utilizing Internet and Attraction Marketing. After all it was called “Professional”. I know you may argue that I expected too much for only $50 a month where others charge much more, like for example $700 a month for StomperNet membership which teaches mainly SEO.
Apropos the “Marketing Merge” In your video about Twitter you quite often refer to your "How I build my First List" program where everything is described in details how to do it (what to say, how to say etc.) As a “Marketing Merge” members will we have an access to this information or do we have to purchase "How I build my First List" program to find out in details how to use Twitter effectively because I can’t find it on the “Marketing Merge” site?
P.S.
In response to your question “I am curious what country you’re from – I hear this attitude a lot from places outside the U.S.” and “ I’m empathetic to your attitude, though it won’t make you any money or give you power or influence in this world we live today.”
I’m from Australia, which is outside the U.S.A. Are you trying to say that only USA attitude is the correct one that allows you to make money or gives you power or influence?
Look at the current state of U.S.A. economy.
Marek,
Are you interested in collaborating with us? If not, we are wasting time interacting. I must be straight forward about this point, particularly because I am setting an example for others on how to conduct themselves in the social networking realm.
If you are interested in collaborating with us, here's my suggestion:
Follow through inside Renegade Professional.
Create your content, develop your lead capture pages, study the sections on how to attract prospects through marketing and how to use the consultative approach on the phone; generate affiliate commissions by providing value as taught; narrow down your target audience, work on your SEO, set up your email system, brand yourself and boost credibility, generate leads for your business--these things are all covered in Renegade Professional.
I now partner and work with many people who were once Renegade Professional students. They got it! I know you can as well.
Mike
Great article Mike. I can easily see how this relates to nearly all aspects of life.
I've been involved in the natural therapies profession for nearly 15 years and what I have observed is that people who have confidence in themselves were able to influence patients in a very positive way and as a result built busy, thriving practices very quickly.
Interestingly those that had what you could consider equal skills technically would struggle to get a clinic happening at all -- it was mostly a mindset and persona thing that was making all the difference.
Those with confidence in themselves were always ACTION orientated. Even if they knew little, what they did know would be applied confidently and this would give them excellent results which in turn set up a positive cycle of growth both personally and professionally.
As the old say goes; "If you know where you are going, people will follow you"
The comments here, along with the original post, have certainly been an interesting learning experience. And, above all, I enjoy learning. How about you?
I took my business online over 9 years ago; a network marketing business. I was told then, and am still told today, that what I do is not duplicable; too complicated; that no one can "do what I do." Ouch.
Hmmm, and yet many of the strongest leaders in my organization are forging their own path through internet marketing.
I'm glad I didn't and don't buy into that misguided theory. After all, I'm a stay home mom who didn't have a lot of time, or a ton of money, but did have a BIG desire. I've never taken a computer class in my life and everything I have learned is self taught, so why can't another do that?
It's vain for anyone to think that "others can't do what I do" or to doubt that another could follow such a complicated system. Take the very shy person and tell them to join BNI or the Chamber of Commerce to generate leads and that person will be out of the business in short order.
Show me any leader or top income earner in any company and I will show you how they somehow forged their own path and differentiated themselves in some way. Nothing wrong with that; all success stories in any profession do this. And, there are always those who will follow and forge their own path as well.
Why do we tell people evaluating network marketing to "think outside of the box" and then when we sponsor them, we want to put them back into a box – "our box"; the box called – simple duplication; the cookie cutter approach?
How many people really succeed at working their warm list? Is this method duplicable? Sure. But if it were really such a "simple" process then we would have less people quitting the profession of network marketing and more people quitting their jobs.
Success in a business, ANY business, requires developing a successful skill set. PERIOD. Good communication; speaking and marketing skills; and leadership are all part of the equation. These are the things that must be duplicated to be successful in MLM, and the way to develop these skills will vary based on the individual and their PASSION.
People often ask me what the BEST way is to generate leads online. For me, the BEST way is the way you feel drawn toward and passionate about. What is BEST for me will not necessarily be BEST for you. That's okay, it’s not a right or wrong, it’s just a FACT.
Once a person moves into developing their own skills, the process does become (dare I say it?) EASY. It really does. It is EASY for me to sponsor 10-20 people a month now. It was NOT easy to do this before I developed my own skill set.
I worked harder BEFORE I developed these skills and made a LOT less money and had a LOT less fun.
10 years ago, I decided that the theory of "Duplication" being taught by so many is a complete myth. I am not interested in a cookie cutter business or being forced into someone else's "box."
It takes time, money and, more than ANYTHING else, a commitment to "going back to school." Going back to school involves learning, researching, and getting rid of the desire to say "This is too hard." It is "hard" to make a lot of money, in anything. And, "hard" is relative.
Understanding the reality of the 2 – 5 year plan is imperative in Network Marketing, and , in most cases, even with internet marketing, because one still has to develop that skill set.
How fun, though, to earn while you learn and develop those skills following a passion and helping others. So, to echo a sentiment, before you ask –
When will I earn $5k a month? $10k a month, and so on; ask this – what value am I offering another? What skill can (WILL!) I work to develop today that will make me better, even if it doesn't yield an "immediate" gratification result?
Like the analogy of going to the gym, the first week that you set out on a workout routine, you don't look in the mirror and see dramatic results. We don't see what is happening behind the scenes. But, it's happening none-the-less.
Same with developing our business skill sets in Network Marketing. I cringe when someone quits after a month or two in the business and says "I'm going to try something else." I want to tell them to save their money.
Here is the reality, until the SKILLS needed are developed, the results will be the same. Guaranteed.
So here is the very simple business plan for success – decide what you are truly willing to commit your time, money and energy toward learning and mastering.
Once you have that determined, write it down and then seek out a mentor who is doing what you want and will coach you (not just teach, there is a difference) in developing your skill set. Pull out all of the stops to get it done and resist the temptation to quit when it seems just a little tough.
Thanks for everyone else's insight.

Excellent post Jackie.
Anyone who has struggled to find EASY success until now can turn everything around in an moment if they commit to the 'system' (i.e. skill development process) Jackie just described.
Here's to doing things the 'easy' way!

Truly inspiring post mike,I can remember years ago when first starting my traditional offline business a older gentleman I met at one of my contracts he was close to retirement and the word he was totally responsible for building this particular company and interesting enough he was not one of the owners.
As he got closer to retiring I would constantly pick his brain and ask him questions about how to be successful in business, and the one thing that he told me which still sticks in my mind to this very day, was that in order to be successful in business you've got to be visible.
This to me is an important part of what you call a persons "influence factor" if know body knows who you are or where to find you all your your marketing well be in vain. You've got to build the foundation first, especially in the network marketing industry. And you've got to make yourself attractive so people will be attracted to you, and you do that by mastering the skill sets within this industry.
I think the most important thing here is to start with what you have don't think about it just do it, and Renegade Professional along with the Renegade Breakthrough program is the best place to start.
Thanks Mike
You are right on about the Influence Factor and thanks for the training you have put in place to help every one have a plattform to develop that skill.

Thanks Mike,
This was just what I needed to get me back on track. Was feeling a little lost and overwhelmed and this brought the big picture back into view. Your comment about 'success suckers' - that put things into perspective as well for me. They're to be found everywhere, not just in business and it's good to know what it takes to handle them!
Renegade Pro has been a tremendous positive factor in my personal development, and everytime I come here so much more is added. Will have to come back to read the comments. Thanks once again for the inspiration.
Renegade Pro has been a tremendous factor in my personal as well as business mindset development, might I add :-)
Since l scrolled down a few comments (using the fast spin on my iPhone ), l caught a comment in the middle somewhere.
It was full of insight and wisdom, l was sure it was from Mike K. or Ann S.
To my surprise it was from Ms. Jackie Ulmer..... Needless to say l had never heard the name., Yet that is exactly what brought the message home to me! l knew right then; What is taught in 'Breakthrough' is to acquire the skill sets to become a Mike Klingler or an Ann Seig or a Jackie Ulmer, now that is worth everything to learn!
