Advantage Goes to The Summer Business Builder

Most know that the summer months are a time of business slow down, particularly in the home-based business world.

But know this:

If you can find a way to actually put your foot on the gas and work harder in the summer months, you'll be rewarded come Fall.  You'll be in momentum while others are clumsily trying to get traction.  Since business is all about standing out from the crowd, you will have gained a significant advantage.

There's less noise in the summer months.  Make a lot of noise and a lot more people will be listening come Fall.  The more valuable that 'noise' is, of course, the larger audience and list (and partners/customers) you'll attract.  If you're moving forward through Renegade Professional you can't help but learn how to give value!

Looking forward to hearing some noise out there this summer!

I just entered my 10th year of business (running a web design & marketing firm) on June 1st, and over the years I've often used the summer months to build the foundation for the Fall. Good points!

Hi Mike:

Great reminder for all of us. In part, I attribute some of my success in working through the summers and holiday seasons to prepare for the growth seasons of mid sept-mid dec, and mid jan - april. Coming from the midwest - you have to sow to reap!

Now living in surfing cultures the last 4 years - another analogy, it is way to late to ride a wave when it is upon you - you have to recognize it - feel and see it coming, then head in the right direction, and paddle hard BEFORE it arrives - if you expect to ride it.

Mike - in light of the global economic turmoil - I sense the wave is going to be a HUGE one this fall - what is your take on that?

Curt, I think your spot on. This fall it will be more evident to people who presently have their head in the sand about how the economy will affect them going forward. Many are collecting unemployment checks and waiting for the real estate market to rebound.

What they don't know is we're in for a long road, inflation is set to hit soon--the only security now will come from what they create... more people than ever will be ready to take action.

I agree 100% Mike. I've always told my teams that while there are a few less "fish in the lake" in the summer months, there is a far greater percentage of the "fisherpersons" that pull their bait out of the water.
(This always applies around the holidays too)

This leaves a greater percentage of fish/bait in the water....
PLUS...w/ the economic times we're in...less people are out "playing" and more are online...looking for a way to feed their family!

I've heard the saying too many times, "Someone is always having more and more success, even in 'bad' times."
This is completely true...and this is a VERY exciting time for those that choose to put in a "season of sacrifice".

Also...this is a little off topic...but a quote relevant for some to realize this is not sacrifice at all.
:)
“The master in the art of living makes little distinction between his work and his play, his labor and his leisure, his mind and his body, his information and his recreation, his love and his religion. He hardly knows which is which. He simply pursues his vision of excellence at whatever he does, leaving others to decide whether he is working or playing. To him he's always doing both.” -- James A. Michener

Make it a powerful day everyone!

Thanks Mike for your words of wisdom.

Those that are sowing seeds now will reap a harvest in the winter months. The animal kingdom doesn't have to be told to prepare, it is second nature. Most of us humans feel it,(manna), will fall from the sky.

My opinion is this recession will end and at the end a new beginning. We cannot wait for the beginning to start our work; we have to create the beginning in order to work.

Thanks for reminding me to accomplish something today!

Great post and thanks for that excellent quote Jason.

I guess growing up on a farm meant understanding that summer was the season you worked the hardest to see the harvest in the fall. My work ethic taught me that you didn' take a break until the harvest was done.

However, Mike, you can't deny that those beautiful sunny Oregon weekends won't draw you into some fun outdoors. Balancing work and play is good as long as you stay focused on momentum.

Good reminder, Mike. Thanks for staying the course in every season.

"Achieving success is nothing more than heading in the right direction and then solving one problem after another.
While it is tempting to soften my focus through the summer; staying with the program, putting my head down to get the work done has become my driving force.
There are lots of 36" cords to trip me up as you described in another post here, but determination and focus will prevail.

Thanks for the encouragement.

During the slow summer month's, home business owners can focus on link building and social media to build their mailing list, so they can capture prospects that they can advertise to both during and after the slow period.

It is good to see this post come up again while the kids are getting ready to go back to school - all of the Fall sales start and it is still Summer! Let's still be in reality and be looking for the opportunities of the moment. :)
