There are two things that you need to understand in order to do keyword research the right way.

Using Longer Keywords and Keyword Phrases

The first is to understand that shorter words and phrases are more difficult to get listed for than longer words and phrases.

What do I mean by this? Let’s say you are involved in a network marketing company called GJE or Greatest Juice Ever. All things being equal, it is going to be easier to get listed for the keyword “Greatest Juice Ever” than it will be to get listed for the phrase “GJE.”

Take it one step further; it is easier to get listed for the term “Greatest Juice Ever Business Opportunity” than it is to get listed for the term “Greatest Juice Ever.” Therefore if you want to get listings faster, focus on longer keywords and phrases.

Using Highly Searched Keywords and Keyword Phrases

The second thing to check is how many people actually search for a given keyword phrase per month.

The simplest way to find out the number of people searching for a keyword or phrase is to use what is known as a keyword tool. Google has one that you can easily find just by doing a search for Google Keyword tool. Best of all, their tool is free!

The keyword tool will tell you how many people are searching for that word on a monthly basis. As long as there are people looking for that word each month it is worthwhile to go after that word for your internet network marketing prospecting.

The more searches that a phrase gets monthly, the more you want to target it. Even if a phrase is easy to get listed for, it won’t matter if no one is searching for it.

Now that you understand the two basic concepts to doing keyword research effectively, you must combine them in order to do a great job of search engine optimization. If you are new to marketing your network marketing company on the search engines, you should stick with focusing on keywords and phrases that are easier to get listed for. That means long phrases, and not highly competitive.

If you type in the keyword phrase “health and wellness” you will find 22 million entries. If you type in “health and wellness for baby boomers,” that number goes down to 179,000.

Go after as many keywords and phrases as possible to get listed, making sure people are typing in the exact same phrase when they do a search.
