MLM Recruiting Local vs. Long Distance Recruiting

In MLM or multi level marketing there are two geographical strategies to use to recruit and build your network marketing organization.

You can focus your efforts on primarily building a local team. You can also focus your efforts on primarily building a long distance team.

The way you decide to build is going to determine your recruiting strategies as well as how you train your organization. There are advantages and disadvantages to each approach.

Advantages to A Local Recruiting Focus

MLM is a relationship driven business. Because of this, there is already an inherent advantage to using a local recruiting focus. By builiding  and focusing on these relationships you may find you are generating network marketing leads.

Recruiting locally allows you to work with members of your organization in person. You can do 2 on 1 presentations for them, host in home meetings and meet with their prospects at any local opportunity overviews in your area.

Building with a local recruiting focus also allows you to build a stronger culture and relationship with your organization.

For instance, you and your team can have events around your network marketing company events which you attend as a team. There is a saying in this industry, “the events around the events are more important than the event itself.”

Advantages to A Long Distance Focus

While long distance certainly lacks in the relationship aspect, long distance recruiting has its own advantages.

Recruiting long distance allows you to tap into markets that might be stronger to build in than your local market.

For instance if your company has a strong presence in a particular area, you can recruit long distance into that area and plug your new distributors into the strong presence your network marketing company already has established.

A good long distance recruit also tends to be more independent and able to duplicate without you faster.

If you are a good leader, your local team will tend to lean on you for support and assistance much longer than necessary.

Because you are not there in person, long distance distributors tend to become more independent quickly. This is a huge benefit for you because duplication without your involvement is what you want.

How to Recruit Locally into Your Network Marketing Business

There are several ways you can build your team locally regardless of whether you prefer a traditional MLM approach or a new school network marketing approach.

If you are going with a traditional approach you can use your warm market in the local area. You can also meet new people using the three foot rule or purchase business opportunity leads that are local to you.

If you are building using a new school internet marketing approach you can take advantage of pay per click marketing like Google Adwords and Yahoo Sponsored Search.

These programs allow you to limit your ads to searchers who live in specific geographical locations. You can also take advantage of local classified ad programs like craigslist where you can create ads in a specific local area. You can use social networking sites like MySpace and Facebook to focus on users in your local area.

How to Recruit Long Distance Distributors

Long distance recruiting also works regardless of your preference of old school vs. new school mlm recruiting methods.

If you are going with an old school approach, you can purchase network marketing leads that are long distance to you. You can also do a direct marketing campaign in the target area of your choice.

With a new school MLM approach it’s actually easier to build long distance as opposed to building locally.

You can use many of the same strategies recommended for local recruiting, but use them for long distance.

You can also use strategies like video marketing, article writing and press releases that don’t target prospects within a specific geographical location.

Regardless of which approach you use as you get to the higher income levels the large majority of your income is going to come from one or two geographical locations anyway.

Therefore be flexible with your approach. If you prefer to build locally but end up getting a superstar long distance, work with that person and vice versa.

The goal is to build a large profitable organization that can run with or without your involvement regardless of wherever individual members are geographically located.
